We have actually set up a Lightedpixels Blog at http://lightedpixelsblog.com

Alwin, Samantha, Kailian, Beth and myself will be posting our wedding related images and thoughts there. This blog will be kept as a personal blog and also to share non-wedding related images.

About 6 months ago, Kyra started ballet lessons in her school. It was a once a week activity with girls from other classes in her school. She really took to the lessons and is always enthusiastic about her ballet classes.

Last month, she had her first ballet performance, performing for the graduating K2 students. Beth and I were quite curious as to how she would perform. Although, she loves her ballet very much, it's still very much more like a play session for her I think. =) In the end, I think she did well. A little off the pace and a little bored at the start but then she came through in the end beaming.

Here are some images from the day.

Nessya came along and was pretty much happy to be around so many cheh chehs.

She got a bit shy about taking a shot with Beth! Sheesh...

More shots of Nessya, as Kyra gets her makeup done for her performance.

Meanwhile, Kyra is done!

Some final instructions from the Ballet teacher.

Finally, she's on stage but it's not yet her turn to perform. She looked bored!

Still waiting...

I guess she figured no one's watching... nah... she just doesn't care. =) She's 4. You don't really bother about that when u r 4.

Off she goes! =)

Video to come... hopefully =)

I seem to be saying this quite often but I am afraid I have to say it again...

It's been a while since I last posted here. =) Thing is... it's been crazy busy for all of us. Both on the workfront at Lightedpixels and at home. We have also been a lot more active of Facebook, like most guys are now I suppose. Nonetheless, I will be posting here cause I believe Blogs provide a better platform for expressing thoughts.

Yesterday, I finally decided to buy myself a Leica Noctilux. It's the equivalent of a Birkin for a lady. It is just as rare and ahem... just as ex. Ok, I am not exactly a gadget or technical sort of a photographer. A lot of my photography is based on soft skills rather than technical ones. That however doesn't mean we can't indulge ourselves with a occasional tool especially if it is capable of producing images that are mind-blowing. So here I am this morning with the Noctilux and I decided to use it to document what happens every morning on Kyra's schooling day.

Today, she got to wear anything she wanted cause it's Children's day celebrations at her school. On a techincal note... notice how the background just melts away. It doesn't just fade away, it melts... =))))

The lens is quite an old lens and it somehow renders every image vintage looking. Love it. I also love the fact that Kyra looks good in specs so no more worries about her watching too closely in front of the 55inch tv.

Our kampong kids...

I suspect she was letting off some gas here...

She simply refuses to tell me where she learned how to pose like that...

Yes... the goodbyes are a wee bit dramatic. We keep reminding the wee one that it's only 3.5 hours.

But the wee one can fake it. Once Kyra's in the car, she's up and about, grinning and smiling, knowing the toys, trampoline and slides are all just hers for the next 3.5 hours. =)

We had a little shoot around the estate about a couple of weeks back. The girls are growing up well and little Nessya is now a year old! Here are some images to share.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
~ Pablo Picasso

I see Art as an object or idea that has been produced with the heart of the artist. Someone, who didn't hold back, and went all out to produce something that is close to him and something that he feels passionately for. When that happens, anyone who comes into contact with the work, cannot help but feel a stirring within. Great movies like Avatar or recently, Inception, do just that to me. I cannot help but be amazed.
On a lesser scale but not a lesser impact, works by kids have the same effect on me.

I see this first hand with my children, Kyra and Nessya. Their willingness to explore. Their ability to let go of what is in their hands just so they can hold on to another. How little baggage they hold and how little resentment they have. Their temper is short and their laughter always longer. How quick they are to empathize with a distraught child. How much closer they are to life and art.

For me, it explains why I am always touched by any work by a child. While they may lack the techniques, the truth and pureness of their expression more than makes up for that. The challenge then perhaps is to not lose sight of the child within yourself and your child.

Kyra's insanely in love with this song at the moment. She sings it a number of times a day and the lyrics vary from time to time. =)

Here is Kyra singing "Reflection" from the soundtrack of Mulan, in case you were wondering.

And the original version! =)

As Beth would say it, it's another sign our little girl is growing up.  A couple of days ago, Nessya stood for the very first time on her own, unassisted. Nessya, as was Kyra and her granddad were pretty thrilled too! =)

Kyra had her first school outing yesterday to the zoo and we brought Nessya along and made it a family outing. =) Beth has also been reminding that we don't have half as many images of Nessie than we do of Kyra. So here are some images of Nessie... the one who chuckles every time she is about to do something forbidden. =)

I have just returned from a lovely holiday and shoot in the lovely Australian cities of Perth and Melbourne. It was an extremely rewarding trip for me. Both couples that I shot for, Alvin & Michelle and Charles & Sherlin, were such warm and giving people. They both have really wonderful stories to share about their relationship and love for one another and it was a blessing for me to be a part of it. =)))

We also had good company in both cities! Lycia and Sherlin's friend Shirley came along during the shoot in Melbourne. In Perth, Lara Beck came along together with Jason. We drove in both cities and it was not unlike taking a road trip with friends. Really fun. Lots of laughter and teasing and just fooling around. =)

We also had the chance to celebrate my birthday in Perth and it was the longest celebration yet. Longer than any I had in Singapore. Ha... It was all good meeting up with all friends and spending the days just chilling out. Beth and Kyra also came along and we put up with O and Clem, whose son Justin, is our god son. The guy's a bundle of chuckles and big warm smiles that melts your heart.

We will be back in Perth in October and November for our planned sabbatical (Oct) and also a wedding day shoot (Nov). We all can't wait!

Here are some images from the trip.

Kyra had lots of fun blowing bubbles in the backyard!

Justin's attempt. =) The boy eventually got it!

We even took some time off to head to the beach.

Kyra absolutely loved the sand there. It was soft and cool and she spent the whole morning running, rolling and burying herself!

Birthday lunch at the Queens and this is Kirsty's smashed up iphone. =) Still works!

Kirsty made some really delicious red velvet cupcakes! Powersome!

Kirsty , Samm and Jason

Then it was a quick cross over to Empire, where Kyra spent most of her time cuddling with the lions!

Jason and Keith and Alvin and Michelle, then joined us all for a dinner at Clem and O's place.

Next day, it was a day out at the cuddly animal farm in swan valley.

Isn't he cuddly? =)

Then it was outdoor dining with Lara and her lovely family. Superb roast lamb and veggies. =))
